What To Bring

Essential Documents and Information for Your First Consultation

Filing a personal or business bankruptcy is a major decision for anyone. At Patricia M Mayer, P.C., based in Yardley, Pennsylvania we offer a free initial consultation with one of our Pennsylvania attorneys because we want you to have accurate, reliable information and be able to address your important concerns.

A List of Critical Items for Evaluating Your Legal Options

You will need to bring originals or copies of:

  • Documents pertaining to a previous bankruptcy if you or your spouse has filed in the past
  • Copies of your federal tax returns for the past two years
  • Pay stubs or other income statements and information covering the past six months—for both yourself and your spouse if you are married
  • Any documents you have pertaining to a foreclosure or other lawsuit filed against you and any lawsuit or claims you have against anyone
  • Recent Bank statements for all open or recently closed accounts
  • If you are self-employed, profit and loss statements or income and expense reports for the last six months to enable us to determine your income, business expenses, any draws or salaries taken and any loans/debt paid by the business during that period
  • If you own a home, your most recent mortgage statement showing the current principal balance as well as statements for any home equity loans or lines of credit
  • All of the most recent bills and statements from every creditor you currently owe, including banks and credit card lenders, medical bills, and car loans
  • Estimates of your average monthly living expenses, such as rent, car payments, all insurance costs, utilities, food, fuel, car repairs, day care, out of pocket medical expenses, clothing, and personal items
  • Statements showing balances of your 401(k) or other retirement accounts—as well as details of any loans you have taken against these assets
  • Statement showing the cash surrender value of any whole life insurance policies

Let's Work Together to Make Our Meeting Truly Productive

There are two critical reasons to locate and bring everything we list above to our first meeting:

  • We can only analyze your situation and offer meaningful guidance on your legal options if we have all this information.
  • We are required under current law to review these documents before offering representation or filing your case.

If you have questions about what to bring, simply free initial consultation and ask. Our lawyers are here to help clients in Bucks and Montgomery counties and throughout Southeast Pennsylvania, from Levittown and Morrisville to Doylestown.
